In 2021, ecommerce edible grocery chain retail sales in Germany totaled about 5.4 billion euros, while store-based sales totaled around 188 billion. Despite the penetration of ecommerce across all levels and product categories, edible groceries have somewhat trailed behind in moving online. By 2026, the sector's ecommerce sales are projected to have steadily increased, reaching about 7.6 billion euros, but store-based sales which are forecast to reach 212 billion, are expected to increase as well.
