Africa imported around 54.8 million metric tons of wheat in the trade year 2020/2021 and might increase the imports to over 55 million metric tons in 2021/2022, according to the source's forecasts. Roughly 26.6 million metric tons of wheat imports landed in Sub-Saharan Africa in 2020/2021, while over 28.2 million metric tons had North Africa as a destination. Egypt alone imported 12 million metric tons of wheat, wheat flour and wheat products in the period, the highest amount worldwide. As of 2020, Russia, France, and Ukraine were the main suppliers of wheat to Africa, according to export value.
