In 2023, domestic demand for portland cement in South Korea lay at over 41 million tons, while a further 8.47 million tons of slag cement were in demand. Portland cement is the most commonly used type of cement worldwide and used for a wide variety of things such as concrete and mortar. Slag cement has similar uses and has shown higher strengths and durability in the long term whilst also being cheaper.
