As of January 1, 2022, the largest share of foreign exchange reserves of the Central Bank of Russia was held in European banks. Together, Germany, France, the United Kingdom (UK), and Austria held approximately one third of the total FX and gold assets. China accounted for further 17 percent. The Central Bank reported keeping its monetary gold assets in Russia.
