In 2020, cerebrovascular disease was the leading cause of death in Saint Lucia. During that year, around 143 people died from this group of conditions characterized by poor blood flow into the brain. Diabetes mellitus, a metabolic disease known for producing high blood sugar levels, was the second leading cause of mortality in the Caribbean insular nation, with about 114 reported deaths.
