Ischaemic heart disease was the leading cause of death in Panama in 2019. In that year, coronary heart disease caused nearly 62 deaths per 100,000 population. Strokes were the second most common cause of death in the country, accounting for around 47 deaths per 100,000 population. Other important causes of death in Panama included kidney diseases and diabetes.
