Leading causes of death in Jamaica 2019, by mortality rate
In 2019, stroke was the leading cause of death in Jamaica. The condition, characterized by poor blood flow in the brain, caused nearly 82 deaths per 100,000 population. Diabetes mellitus, with a mortality rate of around 70.45 deaths per 100,000 people, was the second leading cause of death reported in that year. Other significant causes of death in the Caribbean country were ischaemic heart disease and interpersonal violence.
