Sweden: perception of NATO application by political party 2022

In Sweden, there is a correlation between political stance and opinion on whether the country should join NATO. In May 2022, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February that year, the Swedish government announced its intention to join NATO. Over 60 percent of the voters of the Social Democratic Party, which currently forms a minority government, support the decision. The share was significantly higher among voters of the Moderate Party and the Christian Democrats as well as the Centre Party and the Liberal Party, amounting to over 80 percent. On the other hand, only one fourth of the the Green Party and Left Party voters supported the Swedish NATO-membership application.
