The Great Lakes are the largest group of freshwater lakes on Earth by size. The average surface water temperatures in each of the Great Lakes have increased by nearly two degrees Fahrenheit between 1995 and 2020. As of 2020, Lake Erie, the shallowest lake, was the warmest, recording over 53 degrees Fahrenheit.
