Germany: household energy consumption by fuel 2020

German households in 2020, relied primarily on natural gas for their energy needs. In total, German households consumed an equivalent of 21.75 million tons of oil as natural gas that year. A further 12.05 million tons of oil equivalent were consumed as gas oil or diesel oil (excluding biofuel). Together, gas thereby accounted for more than half of the energy consumption of German households in 2020.
