From January to November 2021, the European Union (EU-27) imported nearly 19 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Algeria. This was the highest volume registered since 2015. Italy and Spain were the main destinations, accounting for around 56 percent and 40 percent of the trade, respectively. As of 2019, the Enrico Mattei (TransMediterranean) pipeline, which connects Algeria to Italy, had a capacity of 34 billion cubic meters per year.
