As of December 31, 2023, a total of 31,825 green, sustainable, and social (GSS) bonds were issued in Europe. The vast majority of GSS bonds issued were green bonds, amounting to 26,286. By contrast, only 3,104 sustainability bonds were issued as of 2023. Green, social, and sustainable bonds (GSS) are fixed-income instruments which finance projects that have a positive impact on the environment, social causes, and on sustainability.
