Sea level rise is likely to increase the threat of coastal flooding and erosion to cultural and natural heritage sites across Africa. According to a study, there were some 56 sites already at risk across the African continent in 2022, and this figure is likely to more than triple by 2050. Between 191 and 198 sites are expected to be at risk that year, depending on the development of emissions in the coming decades.
