Over the next 30 years, the number of buildings facing risk of flood damage in the United States is expected to increase, at least partially as a result of climate change and its effects. In Virginia, the number of office, retail, and multi-unit residential buildings at risk is expected to grow by 26.5 percent between 2022 and 2052, while in Florida, this figure is expected to grow by 21.8 percent. In 2022, there were at least half a million buildings at risk of flood damage in the U.S.
