Seaweed was the main cash crop produced in Zanzibar, Tanzania's semi-autonomous archipelago. In 2022, the region registered a seaweed output of roughly 12,600 metric tons. That same year, Zanzibar recorded a production of 4,734 metric tons of cloves and 769 metric tons of clove stems.
