Roughly 60 percent of informal enterprise owners and operators in Kenya were aged 35 years and above in 2019. That same year, the country had nearly five million informal businesses, those not registered by the registrar of companies or that produce goods and services meant for the market - including informal traders and artisans. While being minority among informal enterprise owners, young individuals aged 18-34 years formed, on the other hand, the majority of informal sector employees.
