The reinsurance cession rate in Sub-Saharan Africa generally increased between 2011 and 2020. When an insurance company partially transfers its business obligations to a reinsurer, this is called "cession." In 2020, the reinsurance cession rate in this region reached almost ten percent - a slight increase from the previous year. Overall, the reinsurance cession rate in Sub-Saharan Africa grew by around 5.3 percent since 2011. In 2020, reinsurance premiums in Sub-Saharan Africa reached almost five billion U.S. dollars.
