As of June 2021, the main reason why Chinese consumers had not yet upgraded to a 5G subscription was that they had not yet bought a 5G capable smartphone. Another 32 percent of consumers stated that the subscription fee was too high. Nonetheless, in 2020, already more than half of Chinese smartphone shipments had 5G functionality.
