Last name the French would choose if the law allowed them to change it 2022, by age

On the occasion of the law proposal aiming at facilitating the steps of the French who wish to carry the name of the parent which was not given to them at birth, a survey was carried out at the beginning of January 2022 showing that if the French could choose between their mother's name, their father's name, or both, more than 20 percent of them would do so. Among 18 to 24 year olds, nearly half would do so.

This study also shows that among those expressing a desire to change their name, a large proportion would choose to use both names, especially among the older generation. On the other hand, nearly half of 18 to 24 year olds and more than a third of 35 to 49 year olds would choose their mother's last name.
