A survey conducted in May 2021 showed that listening to music for free via video websites was the most commonly used method of music consumption among high school students in Japan, with 78 percent of female and 69 percent of male high school students stating to use video websites. Female students were also considerably more likely to buy CDs and to listen to music via TV programs than their male counterparts.
