After Facebook's rebranding to Meta, land sales in four metaverses grew to a combined value that was nearly 1,000 percent higher than in the previous month. These NFTs that contain ownership rights of virtual building plots of digital land are mostly used for online real estate development - with examples ranging from virtual housing to digital recreations of retail stores or the Empire State Building. They can, however, also be traded between owners. The source does not clarify whether all land sales shown here eventually got digital real estate or were traded away. Metaverse-affiliated NFTs were not as big in terms of market size in 2021 when compared to other segments.
