Between January and September 2021, nearly 40 billion Ghanaian cedis (GHS) of total tax revenue - roughly 6.2 billion U.S. dollars - was registered in Ghana. Domestic direct taxes represented the highest source of this revenue, most of which were from companies and employer deductions from employee wages (PAYE). While the contributions from firms amounted to over nine billion GHS - some 1.4 billion U.S. dollars -, the value stood at around seven billion GHS, approximately 1.1 billion U.S. dollars, for PAYE contributions. Overall, domestic direct tax revenue mainly increased in the observed period compared to 2020.
