In 2023, France's power sector produced 29 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (MtCO₂). This was a year-on-year decrease of eight percent, and the lowest emissions levels recorded this century. France has a low-carbon electricity mix owing to its nuclear fleet. As of 2023, France had the largest share of nuclear power in total electricity generation of any country worldwide, at 65 percent.
