Trackers found in mobile apps 2022, by category

As of February 2022, mobile apps of magazines had the largest number of trackers among the examined app categories, with two first-party trackers, and 26 third-party trackers. First-party data trackers can follow user activity and store information on the visited app, while third-party trackers send information to companies and external parties to provide targeted advertising. On average, the examined mobile apps had the possibility to use 12 third-party trackers, while this number decreased in the case of social media apps, with only four third-party trackers on average.
