According to a survey conducted in May 2021, less than ten percent of Russians would buy more products imported from other countries if all economic sanctions against Russia were lifted. For about 45 percent of the survey participants the situation would not change their shopping behavior.

The survey was conducted in no fewer than 80 regions, 500 cities and urban-type settlements, and 100 villages.
The original survey question was worded as follows: "Представьте, что все санкционные ограничения в сфере поставок в Россию продуктов питания из других стран сняты. Выберите из следующих суждений то, которое лучше всего описывает Ваше мнение?"
