In a survey conducted in Ghana in January 2020, 54 percent of 81 tourists departing from the country after the 2019 December in Ghana event (Year of Return) revealed that they spent 100 U.S. dollars or less on hotel accommodations. Moreover, 68 percent of 50 tourists who stays in hotels made expenditures ranging between 100-199 U.S. dollars, while for 12 out of 18 tourists hotel expenses reached 500 U.S. dollars or more.

According to the source, the survey targeted tourists travelling back after the December in Ghana event. It adds that: "The overall objective of this study was to assess the impact of December in GH (Year of Return Events) on the tourism sector from the perspective of the tourist who participated in the programme".
