In 2019, psychoactive drugs prescribed outside of a relevant diagnosis cost billions of euros to the French health insurance. During that year, roughly 2.8 billion euros of expense related to antidepressants and mood regulators outside of a relevant diagnosis, such as depression. Antidepressants and mood regulators were thus the most expensive psychoactive drugs prescribed with no relevant diagnosis for the French health insurance, followed by anxiolytics.
