Number of passenger journeys on national rail in Great Britain 1985-2024
The number of passengers traveling by national rail in Great Britain increased significantly from the mid 1990s until the beginning of 2020. The numbers of rail journeys in the UK during this period peaked at 1.75 billion from April 2018 to March 2019. After plummeting during the COVID-19 pandemic, passenger numbers rose to 1.6 billion in 2024.
