At the end of 2022, one out of four British consumers were planning on switching their energy supplier in the next three months, according to a survey. This represents a slight decrease from the previous quarter. Nevertheless, only 12 percent of British consumers were dissatisfied with their energy supplier.
Share of consumers expressing likelihood to switch to a new tariff with a new energy supplier in the next three months in Great Britain from Q1 2019 to Q4 2022**
* The latest version of the survey was conducted between November and December 2022.
** The question was phrased by the source as follows: "Are you currently considering changing your energy supplier?" until Q2 2021. Since 2022, the question is as follows: "How likely do you think it is that you or someone in your household will do these things over the next three months? Switch to a new tariff with a new energy supplier."
The source also highlights that data is usually collected using a mixed-mode survey including online and face-to-face interviews. Due to contact restrictions amidst the coronavirus pandemic, data from Q1 2021 and Q2 2021 was only collected via online interviews, while Q2 2020 and Q3 2020 were partially conducted by telephone. In 2022, an online survey via online panels was combined with face-to-face and telephone interviews.
