Number of apps adding metaverse keyword to their name 2021-2022
In January 2022, 27 apps added the keyword "metaverse" to their name or their description, up by more than 145 percent from the 11 apps updating their name in October 2021. At the end of October 2021, Facebook announced its new name and next futuristic endeavor during the Facebook Connect event. Far from being only a rebranding operation, Facebook's new name Meta reflects the company's new focus on building the immersive experience of a metaverse.
