In the latest parliamentary election in 2021 in Iceland, the most common occupational background for both male and female candidates was professionals, with 36 and 26 percent respectively. The second most common background was senior officials and managers, both genders just above 20 percent. Moreover, nearly nine percent of the female candidates were students, and only 0.2 percent of the female candidates and none of the male were unemployed.
