Current interest returns of life insurers in Germany 2017-2021
In 2021, most life insurance companies in Germany had current interest returns, or "laufende Verzinsung", between one and three percent. Allianz Lebensversicherungs-AG, the German market leader in terms of premiums written, set their rate at 2.3 percent in that year. Current interest returns refers to the sum of the current profit participation (laufende Überschussbeteiligung) and the guaranteed interest rate (Garantiezins). The guaranteed interest rate is contractually fixed and is typically 0.25 percent.
