During 2023, China issued the higest amount of green bonds worldwide. Green bonds issued in China amounted to nearly 85 billion U.S. dollars. Second in the ranking came Germany with 68 billion U.S. dollars worth of green bonds issued. The United States was third in the ranking and the first European country in the list, having issued 60 billion U.S. dollars of green bonds in 2023.
