Global production of ammonia 2022, by region

East Asia was by far the region that registered the highest production of ammonia in 2022. In that year, production in the region reached 66.56 million metric tons, considerably higher than East Europe and Central Asia, the second leading ammonia producing region worldwide. The global production of ammonia amounted to some 182.59 million metric tons in 2022. Ammonia has an 82.2 percent nitrogen content and constitutes a necessary intermediate for all downstream nitrogen products.
