As of 2022, the Central district was the most populated region in Israel, with over 2.3 million inhabitants. Northern and Tel Aviv districts followed, with 1.54 million and 1.51 million people, respectively. On the other hand, Israeli localities in the West Bank, a mostly non-urban district, recorded the lowest number of permanent residents that year of 478,600 people.
