Number of online card payments on the internet in Czechia 2017-2023

The number of online card payments significantly increased in Czechia in the observed period. While in the first quarter of 2017 the number of payments amounted to 14.92 million, in the fourth quarter of 2023 it reached nearly 120 million. Along with the growing number of card payments, the transaction volume of card payments also grew. In 2023, it amounted to nearly 425 billion Czech crowns. 

Online banking in Czechia

In Czechia, online banking use increased. Moreover, according to Statista‘s Digital Market Outlook forecast, this growth is expected to continue in the following years. Women use online banking slightly more than men and the age groups 25 to 34 years old, and 35 to 44 years old uses it the most. In terms of devices used to access online banking, the computer was the preferred method, followed by mobile phones. With the growing popularity of mobile phones to access online banking, mobile banking apps are related. The two most downloaded banking applications are George from the Česká spořitelna and ČSOB Smart from the Česko-slovenská obchodní banka.

Czechs online shopping habits

Czechs most often pay by a card or bank transfer when it comes to online payments methods. Czechs buy all kinds of goods on the internet, from clothes and accessories to baby goods. Czech women shop online more than men, and most Czech online shoppers are aged between 25 and 34.
