In 2020, the new business ownership rate in Angola stood at 24.3 percent, the highest rate among the surveyed African countries. The rate refers to the share of people aged 18 to 64 years who own a new business that is maximum 3.5 years old. The second-highest rate on the African continent was registered in Burkina Faso, where 12 percent of the adult population were owners of a new business.

The source defines the new business ownership rate as the "percentage of adults aged 18–64 who are currently owner-managers of a new business, i.e. who own and manage a running business that has paid salaries, wages or made any other payments to the owners for more than three months, but not more than 42 months (3.5 years).".
