As of a December 2021 survey, 74 percent of adults in the United States said that they were going to join or were considering joining the metaverse. Overall, 41 percent of respondents stated that their reason for wanting to join the metaverse was to experience things they couldn't do in physical reality and 38 percent thought that the metaverse could be an positive way to unite people. Additionally, 23 percent of those asked said that they wanted to join the metaverse in order to become a different person other than their real self.
