Wyoming has the highest share of government revenue derived from fossil fuels. Between 2015 and 2019, fossil fuel production and marketing accounted for 59 percent of the total state and local own-source revenue. North Dakota followed, at 31 percent. Wyoming's annual average government fossil fuel revenue amounted to roughly 4.3 billion U.S. dollars during these years.
