In 2023, the inward foreign direct investment (FDI) in China as a share of global FDI inflows reached 12.3 percent. This was less than in 2020, when the Chinese share reached 15.5 percent, which was the highest figure on record and was related to growing FDI inflows in China in an environment of dropping global FDI flows due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
