In 2023, the number of net cross-border merger and acquisition (M&A) deals involving Chinese sellers decreased to 36 from 53 in the previous year. The number of M&As had reached a record high in 2014 with 192 deals.

Figures are based on sales of companies in China to foreign multinational enterprises (MNEs). Excluding sales of foreign affiliates owned by foreign MNEs to another foreign MNE. Sales of foreign affiliates to domestic firms are deducted from the numbers.
