Doping occurs when an athlete uses prohibited substances or methods to improve his or her results in training and competitions. This practice is forbidden for any athlete participating in a competition or sporting event, and anti-doping tests are regularly carried out. Of the over 241 thousand samples analyzed in 2021, around 0.65 percent reported an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF).

The share represents results which show an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF). The source adds the following information: "An AAF is a report from a WADA-accredited Laboratory or other WADA-approved Laboratory that, consistent with the International Standard for Laboratories (ISL) and related Technical Documents, identifies in a sample the presence of a Prohibited Substance or its metabolites or markers (including elevated quantities of endogenous substances) or evidence of the use of a Prohibited Method."
