Frequency of statements about unaccompanied minors in media Spain 2021
As of 2021, about half of respondents have heard or read on multiple occasions that unaccompanied foreign minors (known in Spain as MENAS) are a dangerous collective and that they have a tendency towards violence. Furthermore, over a third of Spaniards claimed to have heard repeatedly that these minors are beneficiaries of large public aid and enjoy preference over Spanish citizens. These findings reveal a xenophobic bias concerning unaccompanied foreign children in part of the Spanish media and social networks.
