As of 2019, the direct contribution of travel and tourism to total employment in Africa remained around 2.5 percent. Compared to 2008, the sector's direct contribution to employment slightly decreased, as it stood at 2.8 percent in that year. From a country perspective, island states like Seychelles, Cape Verde, and Mauritius registered larger shares of tourism participation in total employment in Africa.
