On February 25, 2021, Christie's was the first major auction house worldwide to announce a sale based on a non-fungible token (NFT). The artwork was a digital collage by American artist Beeple titled “Everydays: The First 5000 Days”, which ended up fetching over 69.3 million U.S. dollars on March 11, 2021. Beeple's artwork was by far the most expensive NFT sold by Christie's in 2021. That year, another work by Beeple named "Human One" ranked second on the list, being sold for nearly 29 million U.S. dollars on November 9, 2021.
