PM10 concentrations in Delhi averaged 216 micrograms per cubic meter of air (μg/m³) in 2021. Annual concentrations of PM10 in Delhi have increased significantly over the last two decades, and it is now the second-most polluted capital city in the world.
While there is no safe level of PM10, the World Health Organization recommends an annual average concentration of 15 μg/m³. Long term exposure to PM10 can be very harmful to human health as these tiny particles can penetrate deep into the lungs, thus causing breathing problems and other health impacts.
