As of June 2024, the largest share of health foods with function claims registered at the Consumer Affairs Agency in Japan was promoting the effectiveness on the stomach, with almost 1.2 thousand products. Functional foods are labeled with claims based on scientific evidence for the effectiveness of the ingredients under the manufacturers' and distributors' own responsibilities. Since the introduction of labeling regulations in 2015, more than seven thousand products have been registered in total.
