The industry forecast is based on section 47 of the classification of economic categories by the Federal Statistics Office. This section comprises the reselling of new and used goods primarily to private households for private use or consumption, in retail spaces, including stores, market stalls, through mail-order companies, street sales and door-to-door sales, consumer cooperatives etc. In this section, retail is divided by point of sale (retail in retail spaces – groups 47.1 to 47.7; retail outside of retail spaces – groups 47.8 and 47.9). Additionally, retail in retail spaces is differentiated into specialized retail (groups 47.2 to 47.7) and retail with various types of goods (group 47.1). Specialized retail in retail spaces is further divided by choice of goods. Retail outside of retail spaces is divided by type of retail, such as retail in sales booths and at markets (group 47.8) and other retail outside of spaces, e.g. mail-order companies, door-to-door sales, vending machines etc. (group 47.9). The goods sold in this section are limited to products which are generally labeled as consumer goods or retail goods. Therefore, goods which are normally not sold in retail stores, such as grain, ore, industrial machinery etc. are excluded. Also included in this section are units which are mostly aimed at being sold to private households as exhibited goods, such as PCs, stationery, paints and wood, even if these products are not intended for personal or household use. Customary processing, such as sorting, dividing, assembling and packaging, does not affect the core properties of goods. This section also includes retail through sales reps and retail activities in auction houses.
