In the second quarter of 2021, Apple iOS consumers in New Zealand spent more than consumers on Google Play, making up 56 percent of the total app spending for the quarter. By comparison, apps on the Google Play Store generated 44 percent of the quarterly consumer spend. Between the beginning of 2020 and the first half of 2021, iOS app users in New Zealand generated the largest share of revenues on mobile apps. While mobile games were the highest-grossing app category in New Zealand during the examined period, entertainment apps experienced a constant growth trend in consumer spending, reaching 4.21 million U.S. dollars in the second quarter of 2021.
