A New Zealand survey conducted in April 2020 showed that 64 percent of respondents had never participated in social drinking online. According to the survey, New Zealanders engaged in virtually drinking slightly less frequently than during level 4 lockdown.

The survey for Post-lockdown (level 1) was carried out between 10 - 19 June 2020, and the survey for during lockdown (level 4) was carried out between 7 - 13 April 2020.
